Albert Pujols sure stepped up for the St. Louis Cardinals during their two-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays.

With Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado down for the series as a result of their vaccination status, Pujols got a chance to start at first base for St. Louis.

He had a pretty good series too, capping it off with a big three-run homer off of Trevor Richards on Wednesday.

That home run was No. 686 of his career and it put the game out of reach, which allowed Adam Wainwright to settle in and pitch a gem.

SportsCenter tweeted a video of Pujols’ mammoth blast.

It was the longest home run hit by Pujols this season.

It was also his seventh of the year.

It’s clear that Pujols still has it in him.

When you leave a pitch up, he’s going to crush it and he did just that last night.

He and Wainwright led the way for St. Louis in their 6-1 win.

Pujols had three hits and was a triple shy of the cycle, and Wainwright allowed just one run over seven innings.

The Cardinals legends put on a show last night.

But Pujols is swinging a hot bat right now.

After a terrible month of June, Pujols is hitting like he’s in his prime again.

Entering the game on July 6, he was hitting just .189, but in a few short weeks, he’s brought his average back up to .241 and is hitting .381 in his last 15 games.

He may be 42 years old, but The Machine is still The Machine.

And he gave Cardinals fans a treat in Toronto last night by putting on a show alongside Wainwright.
